John Cena v Brock Lesnar - One last time. And the renewed rivalry is set to be the opening match at Wrestlepalooza.

The Greatest of All Time was attacked by The Beast Incarnate following his loss to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in one of the most shocking moments in recent WWE history. Lesar followed that up on the 5 September 2025 episode of SmackDown by brutally F5ing both United States Champion Sami Zayn and John Cena during their epic United States Championship clash.

There's plenty of history between the two future WWE Hall of Famers, as Lesnar is 4-2 all-time against Cena in one-on-one contests. The last time these two Superstars collided on-on-one was at Night of Champions 2014, where Cena won, albeit by disqualification.

Hulk Hogan, the American sports and entertainment star who made professional wrestling a global phenomenon and loudly supported Donald Trump for president, has died at the age of 71, World Wrestling Entertainment said on Thursday.

"WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s," WWE said in a statement.

Police in Clearwater, Florida, said authorities had responded to a medical call for a cardiac arrest at Hogan's residence on Thursday morning.

 Hogan was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, they said.

The bleach-blond, mahogany-tanned behemoth became the face of professional wrestling in the 1980s, helping transform the mock combat from a seedy spectacle into family-friendly entertainment worth billions of dollars.

A key moment in that evolution came at the WrestleMania III extravaganza in 1987, when Hogan hoisted fellow wrestler André the Giant before a sold-out Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan for a thunderous body slam of the Frenchman.

Hogan parlayed his wrestling fame into a less successful career in Hollywood, starring in films like "Rocky III" and "Santa With Muscles," but kept returning to the ring as long as his body would allow.

In 2024, he appeared at the Republican National Convention to endorse the presidential bid of Trump, who in the 1980s had played host to Hulk-headlined WrestleManias.

Hogan said he made the decision to support the Republican candidate after seeing his combative, fist-pumping reaction to an attempted assassination on the campaign trail.

BECOMING 'HULK'

Born Terry Gene Bollea in Augusta, Georgia, on 11 August, 1953, the future Hulk and his family soon moved to the Tampa, Florida area.

After high school, he played bass guitar for area rock bands, but felt a pull to the red-hot wrestling scene in Florida in the 1970s.

Many of the details of his career were showbusiness exaggerations, representative of the blurred lines between fact and fiction in wrestling.

His first trainer reportedly broke Hogan's leg to dissuade him from entering the business, but he kept at wrestling, weight training, and - he later admitted - anabolic steroids.

He gained in notoriety as his biceps turned into what he dubbed the "24-inch pythons."

The "Hulk" moniker came from comparisons to the comic-book hero portrayed on TV at the time.

He would end up paying royalties to Marvel Comics for years. 

"Hogan" was the invention of promoter Vincent J. McMahon, the owner of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), who wanted Irish representation among his stable of stars.

His appearance as wrestler Thunderlips in "Rocky III," where he dwarfed leading man Sylvester Stallone, rocketed Hogan to the mainstream.

Upon a return to the WWF, now controlled by McMahon's son Vincent K, he defeated the Iron Sheik in 1984 to claim the world championship, a belt he would hold for four years.

Hogan became a household name, appearing on the cover of magazine Sports Illustrated and performing alongside pop culture stars like Mr. T.

The WWF came to dominate wrestling, anchored by its annual WrestleMania pay-per-view events.

FACING 'THE ROCK'

Later, he joined competitor World Championship Wrestling, swapping his trademark yellow tights for black and taking on a persona as the villainous "Hollywood" Hogan, the head of a gang of rulebreakers known as the New World Order.

The gimmick reinvigorated his career.

Hogan eventually returned to the WWF, now known as WWE, and faced Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania in 2002.

"I'm in better shape than him," Hogan told Reuters at the time, five months shy of his 50th birthday.

"I'll stand next to The Rock and pose down with him if he wants to."

The Rock ultimately won the match.

Hogan was inducted twice into the WWE Hall of Fame, and referred to himself as the "Babe Ruth" of wrestling - after the New York Yankees' famed baseball player.

But Hogan's support of Trump in 2024 did not go down well with all wrestling fans, and he also faced other controversies.

Gossip website Gawker was shuttered after it posted parts of a sex tape between him and a friend's wife and Hogan sued on privacy grounds, winning a $140 million judgment.

In 2015, he was suspended by the WWE after another surreptitious recording revealed that Hogan had used a racial slur. He was reinstated in 2018.

He was married three times and had two children, who starred alongside him and first wife Linda in a 2005-2007 reality TV show, "Hogan Knows Best."

The 2025 Night of Champions PLE will be the 11th Night of Champions and will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event will host the finals of both the 24th King of the Ring and third Queen of the Ring tournaments, with the last tournaments for each held in 2024.

The event will also feature John Cena's last Night of Champions appearance as an in-ring performer, due to his retirement from professional wrestling at the end of 2025.

UNDISPUTED WWE CHAMPION JOHN CENA vs. CM PUNK

Perhaps the final chapter in one of WWE's greatest rivalries will be written when Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena defends the title against CM Punk at WWE Night of Champions.

Having already retained the title against Randy Orton after winning it from Cody Rhodes on his farewell tour, the self-professed "Last Real Champion" has promised to ruin wrestling by taking the title with him when he leaves.

The pledge is reminiscent of when Punk took the WWE Championship in 2011 after beating Cena to win the title, but The Second City Saint maintains that he was trying to save WWE and not ruin it. Now, he will look to save it once more when he goes to war against his longtime rival in a match that the WWE Universe has been eagerly anticipating for a long time.

 

KING OF THE RING FINAL: CODY RHODES vs. RANDY ORTON

Cody Rhodes will go head-to-head with Randy Orton in the King of the Ring Final at WWE Night of Champions.

After each emerged victorious in a first-round Fatal 4-Way Match, Orton went on to defeat Sami Zayn in one semifinal while Rhodes triumphed over Jey Uso in the other semifinal to earn the right to battle each other at the June 28 Premium Live Event.

The winner of that showdown will be crowned the 2025 King of the Ring and earn a World Title Match at SummerSlam.

 

QUEEN OF THE RING FINAL: ASUKA vs. JADE CARGILL

Is Jade Cargill ready for Asuka? The Empress of Tomorrow will collide with The Storm in the Queen of the Ring Final at WWE Night of Champions.

After each won an explosive Fatal 4-Way Match in the tournament's first round, Cargill overcame Roxanne Perez in one semifinal. At the same time, Asuka took down Alexa Bliss in the other semifinal to earn the right to battle each other on the June 28 PLE.

The winner of the match will be crowned the 2025 Queen of the Ring and earn a World Title Match at SummerSlam.

 

UNITED STATES CHAMPION JACOB FATU vs. SOLO SIKOA

United States Champion Jacob Fatu will take on his former ally, Solo Sikoa, in a highly personal title showdown at WWE Night of Champions.

Although Fatu captured the United States Title, Solo seemed to feel he was superior to The Samoan Werewolf, bringing in JC Mateo without Fatu knowing and belittling the titleholder behind his back.

After Solo failed in his attempt to bring Fatu back into the fold, he and Mateo launched a two-on-one assault on their former "brother" on SmackDown, a move that brought Jimmy Uso to the ring to aid the champion and led directly to the Night of Champions title matchup.

 

RHEA RIPLEY vs. RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ – STREET FIGHT

Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez will go one-on-one in an unforgiving Street Fight.

The Eradicator has been at odds with Rodriguez ever since the latter returned and aligned with Ripley's longtime rival, Liv Morgan, as the two usurped Mami's spot in the Judgment Day and brutalized her on several occasions.

Ripley challenged Rodriguez to a Street Fight, and it is destined to be a ferocious affair between two of the most destructive WWE Superstars.

 

SAMI ZAYN vs. KARRION KROSS

At WWE Night of Champions, Sami Zayn will look to shut the mouth of Karrion Kross once and for all. Kross has been badgering Zayn for months, constantly mocking him for failing to become a world champion.

After Zayn's loss to Randy Orton in the King of the Ring Semifinal, Kross once again poked fun at Zayn, who erupted and challenged Kross to a match at WWE Night of Champions.

Despite months of intense backstage confrontations, Zayn and Kross have never met one-on-one. Can Zayn end his rivalry with Kross, or will Kross be too much?

Roxanne Perez grabbed the next spot by overcoming Natalya and Becky Lynch, after Lyra Valkyria pulled The Man out of the ring and ignited a brawl that took her out of the equation.

Six Superstars will chase destiny as they try to capture the Money in the Bank contract in this death-defying matchup. 

Solo Sikoa stole the first spot in the Money in the Bank when Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo helped Sikoa overcome Jimmy Uso and Rey Fenix.

LA Knight grabbed the next spot by overcoming Aleister Black and Shinsuke Nakamura in a Triple Threat Match.

Penta locked up his spot by taking down Dragon Lee and Chad Gable.

At WWE Money in the Bank, Lyra Valkyria will once again defend the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch.

At WWE Backlash, Valkyria retained the title against Lynch in an explosive contest, only to be viciously assaulted by The Man after the bell.

The titleholder responded by attacking Becky during a Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Match, resulting in a brawl that took Lynch out of the bout and allowed Roxanne Perez to pin Natalya.

One of the biggest tag team matches in WWE history will take place inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., as Cody Rhodes will team up with World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso to take on Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and Logan Paul.

Since attacking The American Nightmare at WWE Elimination Chamber, Cena vowed to "ruin wrestling" and has since dethroned Rhodes for his record-breaking 17th World Title reign, but his past has quickly caught up with him.

Cena attempted to help Paul win the World Heavyweight Title as another way to enact his master plan, but Rhodes returned for the first time since The Showcase of The Immortals, dropped Cena with a Cross Rhodes and issued the challenge for WWE Money in The Bank.

Can the former tag team champions Rhodes and Uso save professional wrestling, or will Cena continue his reign of terror alongside The Maverick?

The 2025 Money in the Bank is an upcoming professional wrestling Premium Live Event (PLE) produced by WWE. It will be the 16th annual Money in the Bank event and will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

This edition will also feature John Cena's final Money in the Bank appearance as an in-ring performer due to his retirement from professional wrestling at the end of 2025.

MEN’S MONEY IN THE BANK MATCH

Who will alter his career in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match? 

Six Superstars will chase destiny as they try to capture the Money in the Bank contract in this death-defying matchup. 

Solo Sikoa stole the first spot in the Money in the Bank when Jacob Fatu and JC Mateo helped Sikoa overcome Jimmy Uso and Rey Fenix.

LA Knight grabbed the next spot by overcoming Aleister Black and Shinsuke Nakamura in Triple Threat Match action.

Penta locked up his spot by taking down Dragon Lee and Chad Gable.

Seth Rollins became the fourth Superstar to qualify by defeating Sami Zayn and Finn Bálor. 

Andrade used an accidental distraction by Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo to upend Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes and qualify for the match.

El Grande Americano was able to overcome both AJ Styles and CM Punk to become the last entrant.

WOMEN’S MONEY IN THE BANK MATCH

A chance at greatness awaits six Superstars as they attempt to retrieve the Money in the Bank contract dangling above the ring. 

The winner of the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match has a 100 percent record of turning the contract into gold. 

Alexa Bliss captured the first spot in the high-stakes battle of the rungs when she overcame Chelsea Green and Michin in an explosive Triple Threat Match.

Roxanne Perez grabbed the next spot by overcoming Natalya and Becky Lynch, after Lyra Valkyria pulled The Man out of the ring and ignited a brawl that took her out of the equation.

Rhea Ripley triumphed over Kairi Sane with Riptide after an early Zoey Stark injury transformed a high-stakes Triple Threat Match into a one-on-one showdown.

SmackDown’s newest acquisition Giulia earned her way into Money in the Bank with a huge Triple Threat Match victory over Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega and 14-time Women's Champions Charlotte Flair.

Naomi qualified for the match after stealing a victory from Jade Cargill and Nia Jax in a thrilling match on SmackDown. 

Stephanie Vaquer became the last entrant after she defeated Liv Morgan and Ivy Nile.

LYRA VALKYRIA vs. BECKY LYNCH FOR THE WOMEN’S INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

At WWE Money in the Bank, Lyra Valkyria will once again defend the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch.

At WWE Backlash, Valkyria retained the title against Lynch in an explosive contest, only to be viciously assaulted by The Man after the bell.

The titleholder responded by attacking Becky during a Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Match, resulting in a brawl that took Lynch out of the bout and allowed Roxanne Perez to pin Natalya.

The following week, The Man went off on the WWE Universe as the reason she took so much time off from WWE and vowed to show the women's locker room what it's like to be held down by The Man.

Whether he likes it or not, Intercontinental champion Dominik Mysterio will battle Penta in a highly anticipated rematch for the title at WWE Backlash on Saturday.

"Dirty" Dom captured the gold in an explosive Fatal 4-Way Match against then-titleholder Bron Breakker, Finn Bálor and Penta at WrestleMania, but Penta wasn't pinned. Mysterio retained the title against Penta one-on-one the following night on the Raw after WrestleMania, but JD McDonagh returned and interfered in the title fight to help Mysterio win.

And now that the explosive Penta has defeated McDonagh, he is again turning his attention to unseating Mysterio and becoming champion.

Many of Mysterio's antics cloud the fact that he is a dangerous Superstar once the bell rings, but can he overcome Penta and his explosive arsenal? Will The Judgment Day be on the same page, particularly with Liv Morgan away making a movie?

Jacob Fatu will defend his United States Championship against LA Knight, Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre at WWE Backlash on Saturday.

Since capturing the title at WrestleMania, Fatu has exuded sheer dominance, with Solo Sikoa at his side to disrupt matches and help bring bedlam to Friday night.

With several Superstars vying for an opportunity to challenge the Samoan Werewolf, Priest caused a disqualification in LA Knight's No 1 Contenders' match against McIntyre.

The continued chaos promoted SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis to set up a Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship.

Former world heavyweight champion Gunther will battle Raw commentator Pat McAfee in what is sure to be a can't-miss matchup in St. Louis.

The ring general snapped on the Raw after mania and attacked Michael Cole, prompting McAfee to jump in and save his broadcast partner, only to incur the wrath of Gunther and be put to sleep.

Raw general manager Adam Pearce suspended Gunther, but McAfee challenged Gunther to a match, which will be McAfee's first singles match since WrestleMania 39.

Will The Ring General tear apart McAfee, or will WWE Backlash be the home of one of the biggest upsets in WWE history?
