Top seed Alexander Zverev failed to convert a match point on the way to a 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 fourth-round loss to Tommy Paul at the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday.
Neither player was able to get a rhythm as rain intervened three times in the contest.
After Zverev was unable to convert a match point in the second-set tiebreaker Paul pounced with two late breaks of the German for a 5-4 lead in the final set, closing it out to book a quarterfinal clash with Italian Flavio Cobolli.
