Egypt ended their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations group stage campaign by topping Group B following a 0-0 with Angola at Stade Adrar on Monday evening.
While Egypt advanced to the Round of 16, Angola bowed out of the competition after finishing third in Group B with just two points to their name after matchday three.
It was a slow start to the game by Egypt while Angola held most of the ball early during the first five minutes as they searched for the opening goal.
Angola created the first real chance of the match while they looked to capitalise on shaky defending by the Egyptians with around 10 minutes on the clock.
Kialonda Gaspar found himself in an inviting position in the attacking third after making his way up the pitch, however, the defender skied his effort at goal.
Egypt came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute as Mostafa Mohamed missed a close-range headed effort following an acrobatic cutback cross into the danger zone.
The Black Sable Antelopes continued to push for an opener with the half-hour mark approaching, while Chico Banza failed to cap off a well-worked passing move on the edge of the area in the 42nd minute.
With neither side able to convert their scoring chances, the game was evenly poised 0-0 at the break.
Angola were afforded one of the best chances of the match moments after the restart after Fredy struck the upright from a near inch-perfect free-kick on the edge of the Egypt box.
Moments after Fredy’s free-kick, Zizo unleashed a curling effort that was expertly saved by Hugo Marquez in goal.
The game began to open up at Stade Adrar with the 80th minute looming while both nations cranked up the pressure by a couple of notches.
Nevertheless, neither side were able to convert their opportunities as the game ended in a tense 0-0 draw.
