Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz bemoaned the lack of killer instinct and bold personality in his team despite AmaKhosi scoring three goals in Sunday’s Betway Premiership triumph over Siwelele.
The 3-2 victory at a freezing cold Dobsonville Stadium kept up Chiefs’ unbeaten start to the season and lifted them to 11 points from their opening five matches.
But the new coach felt his side were not clinical enough and wilted when under pressure.
“In the first half, we were very good in possession. We created a lot of chances, but we are not ‘killer’ enough inside the box. We should have come into the change room at halftime with a two or three goal lead,” said the coach.
Chiefs were 1-0 up at the break after Mfundo Vilakazi scored.
“From the start of the second half, we didn't play well. We started to play long and but we needed to continue to play the same way we played in the first half.”
Chiefs went 2-0 up in the 65th minute through Wandile Duba’s superb back heeled effort but Siwelele fought back within three minutes when Aphiwe Bailiti scored his first career goal to reduce the deficit.
“We were worried after that,” Da Cruz admitted, “we seemed to be afraid on the field, and we had a lack of personality on the field and we let the opponent come back into the game.
“But we deserved the three points if we look at the game overall. But our regret is that the opponent came twice into our box and they scored twice, so they had 100 per cent success.”
