Former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic got one up over his rival Rulani Mokwena on Tuesday as Chabab Belouizdad knocked out league leaders Mouloudia Alger in the Algerian Cup quarterfinal.
Ramovic and former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Mokwena have had a long-running feud from their days coaching in South Africa, and the rivalry has continued since Mokwena arrived at Mouloudia this season.
Mouloudia beat Belouizdad 2-1 in the league in December and are 11 points ahead of them in the championship chase, but Belouizdad went through to the cup semifinal with a 3-2 extra time victory on Tuesday.
They were 2-1 ahead until the last minute when Guinea import Mohamed Bangoura equalised for Mouloudia to take the game to extra time.
But Belouizdad, who were hosting the match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, scored 10 minutes into extra time to win the game.
Ramovic and Mokwena’s feud began when Galaxy knocked out Mamelodi Sundowns on post-match penalties in the 2023 Carling Knockout, with Mokwena lamenting afterwards that his team were missing key players.
Ramovic was irritated by this, accusing Mokwena of making up excuses and said his comments were disrespectful.
It escalated over several more matches with the threat of legal action and the pair almost coming to blows.
