Stellenbosch might have won convincingly at home against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership on Friday, but it was not a performance that pleased coach Gavin Hunt.
Their 3-1 win over fifth-placed Sekhukhune moved Stellenbosch to the cusp of the top eight, having been struggling near the relegation zone when Hunt took over in January.
“It was a hell of a game, a bit end-to-end stuff. It was a bit too open for me,” Hunt said as his side moved to 31 points with six matches left in their league programme.
“I thought there was no control in the game from both teams. They could have got one or two more goals, and then I thought we started the second half well and had the three, four big chances, but we didn't score,” he added.
“And then they scored, and then we got a third goal. All in all, I thought we did well for the victory, but I thought the game was a little bit too open, a little bit too transitional. I don't like it. It was a little bit too edgy,” the coach said.
Hunt said it was natural he was frustrated at all his side’s missed opportunities.
“I don't want to get too technical, but there are a few things where we need to do better.
“In the second half, I thought we were really good and we dominated but didn't score. We had a lot of good opportunities. The pitch was very difficult. It's difficult to play when it’s very cloggy, but no excuses,” Hunt added.
