The opening Saturday of the 2026-27 DStv Diski Challenge season delivered goals, drama and early statements of intent as AmaZulu, Chippa United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United all kicked off their campaigns with victories.
AmaZulu off to a perfect start
AmaZulu made home advantage count with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows, ensuring they collected maximum points on the opening weekend.
Usuthu looked sharp from the outset and were rewarded with two goals that set the tone for what they hope will be a competitive campaign. The Durban outfit controlled key phases of the encounter and showed enough defensive discipline to keep Arrows at bay throughout the 90 minutes.
Chippa edge Stellies in thriller
There was no shortage of entertainment when Chippa United defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-1 in a tightly contested affair.
The Chilli Boys showed resilience and attacking quality to get the better of their Western Cape
counterparts, with the sides trading blows before Chippa found the decisive edge. The victory gives the Eastern Cape outfit an early boost as they look to improve on previous Diski Challenge campaigns.
Sundowns announce title ambitions
Mamelodi Sundowns produced one of the standout performances of the day as they defeated
Durban City FC 4-2 in a six-goal encounter.
The Brazilians demonstrated their attacking prowess, racing forward at every opportunity and converting their chances clinically. While Durban City showed plenty of fight and managed to score twice, Sundowns' quality in the final third ultimately proved too much to handle.
The result sees the Tshwane giants make an immediate statement as they begin another quest for DDC honours.
Sekhukhune claim narrow victory
The day's final result saw Sekhukhune United edge Siwelele FC 1-0 in a closely fought contest.
With little separating the two sides for much of the match, Sekhukhune found the breakthrough that ultimately settled the contest. It was a disciplined display from Babina Noko, who successfully protected their advantage to secure all three points.
