Durban City made history as they were crowned Nedbank Cup champions after battling back from behind to beat TS Galaxy 2-1 in the final at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Jean Lwamba's own-goal gave the Rockets the lead at the break, but Mfanafuthi Mkhize responded for the Citizens early in the second half before the DR Congo striker made amends by scoring the winner 19 minutes from time.
It was the KZN outfit's first major trophy, having also reached the final of the competition in 2018 under their former guise as Maritzburg United, only to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Free State Stars.
Neither team created many chances in the first half, but Bernard Parker's side threatened first when Victor Letsoalo cleared the crossbar at the back post after being set up by Mpho Mvelase.
Galaxy relied on a bit of luck to open the scoring just two minutes before halftime as Darren Keet parried Letsoalo's header into the path of Lwamba, who turned the ball into the back of his own net.
City hit back just 13 minutes into the second half though, with Mkhize perfectly placed to slot home Luphumlo Sifumba's low cross which managed to elude everyone inside the box.
Lwamba would redeem himself on 71 minutes, however, when he beat Ira Tape with a looping shot that was hit with the outside of his boot from the edge of the box to complete the comeback win.
