Türkiye and Paraguay are meeting at the World Cup for the first time. Their only previous encounter was a friendly in Chile over 30 years ago, in June 1995 – the game ended goalless.

Paraguay have won only two of their last 14 World Cup matches against opposition from the UEFA confederation (D5 L7): 3-1 v Slovenia in 2002 and 2-0 against Slovakia in 2010.
