Pretoria Capitals wrapped up their regular Betway SA20 campaign with a 21‑run win over Johannesburg Super Kings, thanks to a staggering turnaround in a low‑scoring thriller at the Bidvest Wanderers on Saturday night.
Defending 143, captain Keshav Maharaj took 3‑15 from his four overs and Roston Chase claimed 1‑11, squeezing the life out of the home side, who were likely still reeling from the Capitals’ comeback with the bat.
Sherfane Rutherford had finished 74 not out off 50 balls and put on a century sixth‑wicket partnership with Dewald Brevis (53 off 47 balls), as the visiting side battled to 143=6 in challenging conditions.
They mounted their comeback from the staggering position of 7-5, with Dan Worrall starring with the ball to seemingly put the match on the brink inside the opening powerplay.

The momentum remained with the men in blue as they mounted their defence with the ball.
Rivaldo Moonsamy’s tortured nine balls at the crease came to an end when he slapped Lizaad Williams into the hands of Rutherford at deep backward point.
James Vince (19 off 23) set the platform to continue his outstanding SA20 form but perished as Maharaj coaxed the edge to have him caught at slip by Andre Russell.
The skipper took full charge when he trapped Matthew de Villiers LBW before having Wiaan Mulder caught by Chase as the Capitals took their chance to turn the screw.
Chase then earned a reward for his own fine bowling spell, as Leus du Plooy (22 off 17) became the next man to edge to Russell.
It left the home side in all sorts of trouble at 58-5 and with the required run rate lurching north of ten an over.
That became 68-6 when Akeal Hosein departed without scoring, LBW to Gideon Peters, whose review was overwhelmingly successful after his original appeal had been turned down on‑field.
Then went captain Donovan Ferreira, whose attempt to bat after injuring his shoulder diving in the field lasted one ball before he retired hurt.
The rest was a formality as Williams picked up the wicket of Jansen, caught at point by Chase, then bowled Burger with the last ball of the match to finish with 3‑25 for himself.

RUTHERFORD AND BREVIS RIDE TO THE RESCUE
Earlier, Shai Hope was first to fall when he flashed Worrall straight to Mulder at first slip, before Hosein took a fine catch diving forward to dismiss Bryce Parsons in Nandre Burger’s first over.
Then came the squeeze as Worrall, who finished with 2‑12 from his four overs, produced a rare T20 maiden, with swing and bounce a constant menace.
Mulder prompted a Connor Esterhuizen drive straight to tumbling Ferreira at mid‑off, with the batter trudging off for a seven‑ball duck.
Chase came and went next ball, swinging straight up into the gloom as keeper Moonsamy took a regulation catch.
Russell was next to face the music, poking at his first two deliveries before a wild swing and a miss at Worrall saw his off stump demolished.
They were a staggering 10-5 at the end of the six‑over powerplay, with Brevis reprieved when his edge down to third was spilt by the diving Du Plooy as he crashed to the turf.
But he and Rutherford restored calm before cranking up the heat after the halfway mark.
Then came 23 from the 14th over as Brevis took a liking to Ferreira’s off‑breaks, with the 22‑year‑old going on to reach his half‑century off 42 balls.
A wicked square drive from Rutherford brought up the 100 in the 16th over before he picked out the leg side boundary to go to his own 50 from 36 deliveries.
Brevis finally fell to Duan Jansen but the pair had done more than enough.
