The first round commenced with a series of exchanges on foot, with Evloev surprisingly not shooting for the takedown early on. Murphy pushed the pace early on and snapped Evloev’s head back with a crisp right hand that caught his attention before circling out of range.
It was much of the same during the second round as Evloev chose to stay on his feet and engage with the Englishman. Keen to show off his striking improvements, Murphy once again landed with clean counter punches from both hands moments before the buzzer went off.
The third round commenced with Evloev shooting for a takedown, however, Murphy soon returned to his feet before the fight was momentarily paused owing to an accidental low blow by Evloev. Nonetheless, Murphy gave a good account of himself in Round three by mixing up his shots before facing a swift flurry by Evloev late on.
Evloev was warned by referee Marc Goddard early in Round four following yet another low blow on Murphy, while the Russian secured a series of takedowns across the five minutes. It was in Round five where Evloev came to life and brought Murphy to the canvas on three separate occasions, showcasing his newfound striking abilities in the process.
Speaking after the fight, Evloev expressed that his goal in the UFC is to claim the Featherweight title regardless of who is in front of him.
“The one thing that I have is that nobody can stop me, because I have a goal,” Evloev said.
