South African athletes shone in multiple disciplines at the Golden Spike track and field meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic on Tuesday night.
Sinesipho Dambile broke new ground over the unofficial 150m distance, taking second place in 14.78 seconds. He sliced 0.26 off the South African best (15.04) set by Akani Simbine in Tshwane in 2024.
Up front, Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles of the United States won the race in 14.67.
Fellow sprinter Bayanda Walaza also produced a standout performance, winning the men's 100m contest in 9.94. Having recovered from a persistent hamstring injury, Walaza dipped under 10 seconds for the first time this season, equalling his personal best which was set in Zagreb last year. Behind him, African champion Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon grabbed the runner-up spot in 9.99.
In other events, Marione Fourie and Douw Smit both achieved podium positions in their specialist disciplines. Fourie finished third in the women's 100m hurdles race in 12.68 and Smit was third in the men's javelin throw competition with a best attempt of 83.90m.
